4A.  Reflecting on Teaching

Video reflection

I chose this artifact to demonstrate my reflection on my own teaching because with this type of reflection, I was able to watch exactly how I did and what how I responded to situations as they arose. As I watched myself teaching,  I was able to isolate what was and what was not working in the classroom. I also noticed things that I did while teaching that I needed to change due to the distracting nature of them. After reviewing my lesson, varied across four classes, I felt more confident about how to proceed the next day more successfully.

I feel this artifact demonstrates my understanding of reflective teaching for not only myself but the students learning as well. It also shows my ability to remain flexible and allow the lesson to fluctuate as needed.

Artifact 2

4D.  Participating in a Professional Community

Elementary Music Teacher Collaborations

I chose this artifact to demonstrate my participation in a professional community by attending meetings between Elementary music teachers between the whole district. This artifact is an agenda from one of the meetings. The purpose of these meetings were to discuss what the district was doing for music, discuss lesson ideas, and share resources.

I participated in these meetings as an observer and learned several new ideas from not only my lead teacher but the other teachers as well.

I feel this artifact demonstrates my understanding of why it is important to participate in a professional community and how I can go about doing so with other teachers in my future district.

Artifact 3

4E.  Growing and Developing Professionally

Orff Conference October 2016 & February 2017

I chose these artifacts to represent my continued growth and development professionally. These artifacts show the activities I participated in at the Orff Conferences in October and February this year. These conferences are excellent sources of new lesson ideas, classroom management, and material sources. This organization also allows music teachers to attend national conventions on scholarship and share what they learned with the other members. It also invites presenters with degrees in specific aspects of music knowledge to resent ideas and lectures at the larger conferences.

I feel these artifacts represent my desire to be a life long learner and show one source which I will continue to gain ideas from. In addition to these conferences, I plan to continue my education and earn my Masters in Education as well as attend future workshops for various methodologies.
